Happy New Year!

1/1/09 - 27w1d

Happy New Year everyone! I cannot believe how quickly time flies when you are trying to live life. It seems that while in school, you want time to speed up so you can do grown up things but then after you leave school and start dealing with grown up stuff, you want time to slow down. And maybe repeating birthdays, like turning 29 four years in a row. I want the next couple of months to speed up so I can finally meet these critters who like to rearrange my internal organs, but then I know I would want time to slow down so I can enjoy them. 27 weeks down and I am approaching my third trimester.

Baby Development at 27 weeks:
The babies each weigh approximately 2 pounds (about the size of a head of cauliflower) and measure nearly 14.5 inches from head to heel. Their facial
features are almost fully developed and synchronizing enough that they may make
faces that are visible on an ultrasound. Their skin is becoming thicker and
fleshier and increasingly wrinkled, thanks to the amniotic fluid. Their skin
will remain wrinkled for the first month or so after birth.

The babies are sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and
closing their eyes, and perhaps even sucking their fingers. With more brain
tissue developing, babies' brain is very active now. While their lungs are
still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical
help — if they were to be born now. Any tiny rhythmic movements I may
be feeling could be a case of baby hiccups, which will be common from
now on.
This was taken at Christmas so technically it is a 26 week photo.

I have not gained any weight in the last few weeks but I sure have gained some inches.
I need to give this list to Rod because he is always commenting on how big I am. I think ginormous is his adjective of choice.
